Segesta
Surrounded by beautiful peaceful countryside Segesta temple is one of the most important Doric monuments ever constructed. Unfinished, The purpose of the temples construction remains unknown, however it is suggested that it was erected to impress the Greeks in order to gain military support.
A romantic site Segesta is tucked in between green hills and rugged mountains on the Northwest coast, Built in 420BC it now stands alone in an isolated position only giving the passing tourist a glimpse of its former glory.
Sitting on a gentle slope that is a blaze of colour in the spring, as the sun sets it turns a beautiful shade of pink in the evening light. The theatre further up the hill on Monte Barbaro has commanding views out towards Trapani and the sea and even today in the warm summer months is used for spectacular performances such as the Sicilian tale known as the “Rustic Cavalier”.
