June saw the arrival of some very special friends from Ireland, coming over to Sicily for a holiday in sunny San Vito lo Capo.
Old friends Pete and Anne Evans brought along their son Simon for a relaxing holiday before he and his mate Fearghal O’Nuallain, long time friends will undertake Irelands biggest ever challenge: To cross the globe on bicycles. The expedition will take in over 30,000 km of some of the roughest terrain ever encountered, to include such places as the Gobi dessert, Peru and the Great Wall of China.
The journey will take 16 months to complete and in that time I am sure they will encounter many issues of the globe and climate change as well as some funny stories to tell. This has been a long time ambition of the boys and has taken many months of preparation to get this enormous operation underway.
They will of course be starting their Journey in Ireland with a real Irish send off we are sure.
Simon Evans
Simon was born in Dublin and raised in Wicklow and as part of an active family is now a person that enjoys a challenge or two. He studied and works as a structural engineer and now lives and works in London.
Fearghal O’Nuallain
Fearghal grew up in Greystones where he has been trading National Geographic magazine since he has been a nipper. Shortly to finish a BA in economics and geography at UCC has been a person filled with the spirit of adventure since a young lad.
Sicilian gems will be sponsoring the boys on their long and no doubt arduous journey and when they arrive into Sicily will be welcomed with much southern hospitality and given places to rest and good Sicilian food to eat, before being waved on their way by the many friends of the Island.
If you would like to have a look at the boy’s web page and become a sponsor for this fantastic journey then please go to…………. http://www.revolutioncycle.ie
We wish Simon and Fearghal all the strength and luck in the world for this truly amazing undertaking.
The expedition is solely supported by the companies kindly offering help to the team and all money raised will be donated to the organisation “Aware” This voluntary charity is helping to defeat and raise awareness about depression and how it is often overlooked as an illness.
Good luck boys and see you in Sicily!!!!
